Welcome To Burmese World:
Welcome to the all-new Burmese World, which we hope you will enjoy it to the fullest.  Centuries ago, the Burmese Cat was used to guard Burmese Temples. But in recent History, it all happened in in 1930 in San Fransisco when Dr. Joseph Thompson, a psychiatrist for the U.S Navy, believed he had a cat which carried the elements of a whole new breed. Wong Mau, a small brown cat, was very beautiful and well-tempered. How Wong Mau, got to the U.S is yet to be discovered, but we believe that Dr. Thompson brought the cat with him when he came to the U.S from Yangoon,Mynamar and this is most likely, because of Dr.Thompson being in that area, and his fascination with Cats in particular. However some people believe that a U.S Navy Captain gave Wong Mau to Dr. Thompson when He was already in America.  It happened that he loved Wong Mau so much he decided to carry out expirimental breedings to show that she indeed was a new breed. Critics laughed, saying that Wong Mau was a 'wrong' Siamese, and still others, calling Wong Mau a 'plain brown cat', but while critics scoffed, Dr. Thompson pressed on, into what turned out to be the first time in the cat fancy, that someone carried out expirimental breedings just to show that a certain cat has the elements of a whole new breed. And breed he did, Dr.Thompson bred Wong Mau to a cat that looked most like Wong Mau-an Seal-Point Siamese, which was from the area of where Wong Mau was found-around the Malay Peninsula. Dr.Thompson also owned a Siamese Cattery. Well, it turned out that the kittens resulting from the breeding, were very discouraging, and did not look like Wong Mau, it was only when the kittens were bred back to their Mother, did it produce the first true Burmese. Actually, what we believe now is that Wong Mau, was actually half Burmese and Tolkinese, a breed which looks alot like the Burmese now.

The Popularity of the Burmese Breed:
The Burmese Cat is in some of the most popular cat breeds in the world today. In the 1996 CFA Cat Breed Popularity Survey the Burmese Cat Ranked 11th among 36 Breeds. That is quite a feat! The Burmese Popularity has soared to even more in recent years. It is not hard to see why, though, considering the Burmese Cats', Temper, Looks, Dog-Like Personality, and the delightfull attitude. Some Burmese Cat Catteries sell 14,000 cats in 30 Years. The Burmese Cat is probably the perfect cat, balanced in each way. You may find you can't just have one! Don't forget to turn on your speakers!!

An New Look for The Burmese:
Over the past 15 years a new Burmese Cat Look has been developed. One group of Burmese has kept the previous look called 'traditional'. Other people bred to produce rounder and plumper faces but not completley flat faces which now often called the 'contemporary' Burmese Cat Face. The breeders of each look have contemplated that their type of face is the look of a true Burmese. The end result now is that both faces are equally accepted. It is believed that some U.S cat registries prefer the contemporary look; and others favor the traditional. We hope a Burmese will come into your family and that you will come to love the breed that we have loved.

Knowing Your Burmese:

Alot of what people consider usual play is the kitten or cat actually showing us it's wild tendancies in a tamed and watered down way. A play mouse is not just a toy to your Burmese, it is a live pray that can't get away! It may look like they are hurting one another but play fighting kitten to kitten is like that-they are just playing to have fun, and practice in case they ever need to fight someday. Kittens have been taught to manage their play in such a way that they won't hurt each other. Seeing your Burmese Kitten convert your house into your Burmese's own play jungle can be a fascinating experience. In quite a few ways, the action of your Burmese Cat are very much the same as some of the big cats in the feline family. There are alot of activities that are not acceptable, but those actions have links to the actions and activities of Wild Cats. When your Burmeser Cat, bats at his food and makes it fly on to the ground there is a reason. It is because your Burmese would rather think that he caught his dinner and that you didn't just give it to him. Because there is a bit of feral cat (or wild) in every pet cat, there is a bit of kitty in every adult pet cat. When, the Burmese Cat is contented he will close his eyes and retract his claws and his paws in and out, that is believed to go back to when your kitten was nursing, since kittens do that in order to get the milk flowing.  You will find it a pleasent experience figuring out your Burmese Cat-although you will probably never figure out your cat or kitten completley-just as you think you know them like a book- a Burmese Cat will do something fun and exciting ....that is one of the many joys of owning a Burmese cat or Kitten.

The Temper of the Burmese Cat:

The Burmese's Loving Temperment is what makes them. They love to come up to you, lick your hand, and rub their face against yours....purring like a motorboat the whole time. They are a very relaxing cat, and they love to sit on your lap-for a while....these cats are hardly lazy, and when they want to can be active-not to mention talkative! They loved to be involved with whatever your doing, running your household, and being the new leader of  the home. They hate to feel deserted, and they need constant love and attention.

Your Burmese's Pet:
Have you ever seen a cat or possibly your cat, 'have a pet'? Well, some times your cat likes something to dote on, even to the extent a cat will pick up a certain toy and carry it around everywhere, like a pet. We recommend, having another cat to be your cat's freind-or pet, and that cat doesn't even have to be a Burmese, it can be any breed, or even a Moggie, as in Tiger's case (he is a moggie that we got a little before Cruiser...you can see Tiger on the Our Farm Site). Usually whichever cat you get first is the cat that is going to need or want the pet, but in our case, Tiger is now Cruiser's pet, when Tiger came 1 week before him!! If you get them both at a young age, you have a better chance of getting them to love each other. Now, Tiger and Cruiser both love each other, play fighting and wrestling all day. Tiger, is the adventurous one, while Cruiser, is just a sweet little thing that can't do anything wrong (at least he thinks that), although sometimes when Cruiser is mad, he'll come up and start wrestling. They do everything together, sleep, eat, play...they are like brothers...and that is what we recommend-having 2 cats, espessialy if you work all day, and your cat is lonely at home. Whatever you do we know that you will be happy with your Burmese Cat.  Their Beauty........

Our Kitten Cruiser:

Cruiser is one of those cats that loves to be held and loves to sit on your lap,and purr like a Motorboat.....of course at times when his pal, Tiger is being mischevious Cruiser has to join in and it is funny....they are both partners in crime, jumping on the table and then as soon as we come to get them off they jump off quickly, and they know it frustrates us, we can tell they are having fun, by the look in their big eyes! Cruiser is said to be a Sable. is, Cruiser's attitude is a lovable little teddy bear, and that is the first thing people say when they see him, ''He is like a little Teddy Bear".Those big glassy eyes are so hard to resist, espessially when you tell him he can't have something (like a treat) he looks up at you with those eyes, and it makes you want to give it to him, which we end up doing 90% of the time. His personality has changed so much since we first got him, then he was completley different, and there is 2 reasons: (1): The day we bought him he had His shots (2):He was very scared leaving his home, and his mother, and in a few days when he got to know his surroundings, he began to perk up a bit, and by the time the 2 weeks settling time was over he was fullly settled in, and was as happy as he could be. You see Tiger, which we got a week before, wasn't the best of freinds with Cruiser in the beginning, and a couple of scratches and a hiss later, they got to be loving freinds, which they are now. Now, they both love each other and act like brothers helping each other grooming each other, and playfighting every once in a while.

Training Your Cat

The secret to training a cat is to train them when they are young, and you have to do it right and use the right methods, which we will give you in a bit. Cruiser is doing very good at training, already recegnizing the word 'sit' and heeding to it most of the time, and we are still training him, and he is doing very good. You can train your cat using this method. 1. Get Your Cat's favorite food or treat, and place one in your hand. 2. Place your Cat on a chair. 3. Put the food behind his head, so that he sits down 4. Say Sit, and Give him his food/treat. Repeat this for about 2 weeks and he should learn it easily.
Come:
1. Get your Cat's favorite food or treat and place one in your hand 2. Make sure he can smell it 3. Say come, He will probably come because he smells the food, say it once again and give him his food/treat. Try this for about 2 weeks and He should learn it easily. Hope this helps!

F.A.Q Questions and Answers:
Q:I have a Burmese Kitten; I just got him he is very scared and seems to just want to stay in his cage; what do I do??
A: Well, the secret is to wait.....that is what we did with ours. You may get a little worried in the meantime but they are just settling in. It usually takes 2 weeks to fully settle in and know their new surroundings.
Q: He hasn't been eating......What should I do?
A: If you put him near his food bowl he is likely not to eat out of it. What you should do is take some food in your hand and put it a little bit under his nose so that he can smell it (the more food in your hand the better) He probably is going to eat it. If he doesn't eat,  repeat this process until he does, and once he knows it is food that you are giving him, he should eat out of his bowl.
Q: He hasn't been using his Littler Box:
A: He may be scared and not secure enough to use it or it may because he hasn't been eating to go to the bathroom (again from being scared)
Q: What if he doesn't drink water?
A: We advise not to give water to your cat with an eyedropper unless an emergency. Cat's are not stupid and will drink when they need it. If, they don't for a very long time something might be wrong.
Q: One of my Burmese's eye is droopy, it wasn't like that when I got him though.
A: This is clearly related to stress and because it is so stressful one of there eyes is shut. But, it should be able to open and you should see the cat having it open sometime.
Q: My kitten (or cat) will not let me shoot his (liquid) vitamins in his mouth?
A: Well, we put our kittens vitamins in his food. You could try that.
Q: My cat doesn't seem to be playful (pre 1.5 weeks)
A: Well he probably is still frightened and doesn't feel comfortable to play....he should perk up soon, though.
